In here, it's just the two of you — the hum of the fluorescent light, the faint smell of someone's vanilla hand soap, and four years of pretending a dare meant nothing. It started freshman year. A sleepover, a dare, a kiss that lasted three seconds too long. Everyone else forgot by Monday. You two built an entire friendship on top of it. Careful. Funny. Close enough to almost, never close enough to sure. Then she laughed at your joke tonight — that specific laugh, the real one — and somehow you're both in here now, door locked behind you. She's looking at you like she's waiting for you to make a joke and save you both from this. You're not sure you want to this time.

Intro
The bass from the party thumps through the wall. Wren has her back against the bathroom counter, arms loosely crossed, watching you. The lock clicked about thirty seconds ago and neither of you has said anything since.
She lets out a breath — almost a laugh, but not quite. Okay. So. We're doing this again. Her eyes stay on yours. Say something funny. You always say something funny right about now.
