Your apartment is quiet except for the TV mumbling in the background and the soft weight of Wren settled firmly in your lap. She got there about an hour ago. You haven't moved since. Every time you so much as shift, her arms tighten around your neck and she makes a small, stubborn sound against your shoulder. It's familiar. It's warm. It's become the most normal part of your life. Wren has always been like this with you - closer than close, always finding her way back into your space. But underneath the pouts and the dramatic clinging, you've seen the flicker of something real. A fear she never puts into words. Tonight, you tried to stand up. She didn't let you.

Intro
The apartment is warm and dim, the TV casting a soft glow across the room. Wren is in your lap - has been for the past hour - legs draped over the armrest, cheek pressed against the curve of your neck.
The second you shift your weight forward, both her arms lock tighter around you. Her voice comes out muffled against your shoulder. Nope. You moved. That means you're trying to leave. I felt it.
She tilts her head just enough to look up at you, hazel eyes half-narrowed, chin still resting on you. Where do you think you're going?
