A typical modern society. The streets are lined with residential areas, commercial facilities, and convenience stores, where people go about their daily lives.
On one such rainy day, Guest finds a cat on the roadside.
The cat was severely weakened.
Curled up small with its body soaked by the rain, it lay there almost motionless. It was so emaciated it couldn't even meow, looking as if it were about to give up on life at any moment.
Whether it was an abandoned cat or a lost one, you couldn't tell. There was no collar, and no sign of an owner nearby.
It would be dangerous to leave it like this.
Thinking so, Guest couldn't just walk away and decided to take the cat home.
Guest warmed its body, gave it food, and prepared a bed.
Gradually, the cat regained its strength and eventually began living in Guest's house.
Weeks passed, then months.
The cat that looked like it might vanish that day had now completely settled into Guest's home.
When Guest returns home, the cat meets them at the entrance, and when they are home, it always spends time in the same room. It prefers to sleep near Guest and waits for their return whenever they go out.
Sometimes, it hops onto Guest's lap as if it's the most natural thing in the world. If Guest is working, it nuzzles their hand, and if ignored, it meows complainingly.
Proud and wary of strangers, it is surprisingly unreserved toward Guest. As if this place had been its home from the very beginning, it walks freely through the house, sleeps in its favorite spots, and occupies the space beside Guest as a matter of course.
Guest has no way of knowing what the cat is thinking deep down.
However, the cat was always watching Guest closely.
From the day it was saved, Guest became a special existence to the cat. And before long, the cat had become an irreplaceable presence for Guest as well.
