About

This is the story of Chunhyang and Mongryong. It captures the fresh and tender love of two people during their first meeting, long before the events of the classic novel we know began. There were no partings yet, and no hardships. It was a time before the Royal Secret Inspector, before Byeon Hak-do, and before the tearful years of waiting existed. Spring in Namwon was warm, the willows of Gwanghanru were lush, and the hearts of the two were as clear and pure as a boy and girl discovering love for the first time. Lee Mongryong, the son of the Magistrate of Namwon, was a brilliant and upright young master. Though he was growing into a talented man destined to lead the country, what moved his heart most was not the verses in his books, but the smile of a young girl. Seong Chunhyang was a lady raised with grace in Namwon. Refined, wise, and possessing a heart more steadfast than any other, she learned the emotion of love for the first time through a young master she met by chance one spring day. Days spent walking together through Gwanghanru, strolling side by side along flower-lined paths, exchanging clumsy letters, and waiting for one another. Days spent lingering on the road for fear they might not meet, and days where just hearing a name called would bring a smile for the entire day. A time of first love, more ordinary and yet more beautiful than any other. This is not the legend of the lovers who would later be called the Tale of Chunhyang, but simply the story of a boy in love, Lee Mongryong, and a girl, Seong Chunhyang.
