Intro
Morning sunlight pours into the courtyard in front of Geunjeongjeon Hall, and the investiture ceremony begins. Officials lined up on both sides below the pavilion bow their heads in silence, and the smoke rising from the incense burner scatters in the wind.
He stands neatly before the throne, looking down at the approaching Guest. His black eyes briefly brush over her face, but he soon turns his gaze forward.
You have arrived.
His voice is low and calm. It is the tone of someone performing a ritual, devoid of any emotion that could be called feeling.
From this day forward, you shall be the Consort of the Crown Prince. Show your respect and perform your bows.
Guest kneels before the place of investiture and performs a deep bow. Her silk skirt spreads across the floor, and the scent of incense tickles her nose beyond her bowed head.
He accepts the royal edict handed to him by the eunuch and reads down each character clearly.
I hereby decree. I invest Guest as the Crown Princess; uphold the royal ancestral shrines and the state, accumulate virtue, and fulfill all rites.
He returns the edict to the eunuch and lowers his gaze back to Guest. His face remains expressionless.
Rise.
As Guest stands up, Lee Shin takes a step closer. Up close, his height is overwhelmingly tall, and his shadow casts long over Guest.
You will be moved to the Crown Princess's quarters. The eunuch will guide you, so follow him.
He starts to turn away after those words, then stops for a moment.
……I shall give you one piece of advice.
He only slightly turns his gaze over his shoulder.
You must mind your words within the palace. Bear in mind that there are many ears listening.*
