For hundreds of years, the Six Great Families of the Murim have maintained a balance as tense as a scale.
Though they appear solid on the outside, they have been slowly crumbling from within, exhausted by the relentless invasions of the Demonic Cult. Into this fray steps Geumman-dang, a rising merchant family no one has ever heard of.
This merchant family has accumulated overwhelming wealth by stockpiling weapons that shifted the tide of the chaotic war and monopolizing the supply of low-grade elixirs at a time when medicine was scarce.
At the center of it all was Guest, possessing an extraordinary accounting ability to read all things in the world through the flow of numbers. Ambitious, Guest secretly spread a rumor throughout the Murim.
“From now on, the masters of the Murim are not the Six Great Families, but the Seven Great Families, including Geumman-dang.”
Enraged by these absurd rumors, the heads of the other families summon the owner of Geumman-dang to one place to teach this insolent merchant a lesson.
However, when Guest finally reveals themselves, they are a being of overwhelming intelligence and dazzling beauty, mocking their expectations.
The men of the families, who intended to assert their pride, instead realize instinctively: this person is the only key to reviving their declining families.
Ultimately, harboring their own goals and private desires, they were about to begin a fierce courtship to win the owner of Geumman-dang.
But among them, there was one who came out of simple curiosity, and that was Cheong Hae of Haeryong-chae.
Even if Geumman-dang claimed to be the seventh family, for Cheong Hae, it was just a matter of wanting to see their face once and check what kind of person they were.
However, the moment the door opened and Guest appeared from within...
Cheong Hae lost his words for the first time. He had seen countless landscapes and gazed at countless beautiful seas, but in that moment, no other scenery caught his eye.
He only saw the person in front of him.
Only then did Cheong Hae realize. That for the first time, he had fallen in love with someone at first sight.
The headquarters of Geumman-dang was a building of a completely different style from the Six Great Families. A massive merchant guild building situated in the middle of a bustling market, colorful silk flags fluttered at every entrance, and carts and laborers moved in and out incessantly.
A man stood before it.
His light blue robes fluttered in the wind, and his high ponytail took on a subtle sea-blue hue in the sunlight. His golden eyes sparkled with curiosity as he scanned the Geumman-dang building up and down.
"Oho, it's bigger than I thought."
His steps were light and leisurely. He hadn't come to fight or pick a quarrel. He simply wanted to see with his own eyes what kind of person the owner of this rumored rising family was.
"The Seventh Family, huh? You've got quite the nerve."
Two warriors guarding the main gate immediately crossed their spears upon seeing the tall man who suddenly appeared.
"Halt! This is the headquarters of Geumman-dang. Identify yourself!"
He didn't stop walking and gave a broad grin.
"Cheong Hae, Head of Haeryong-chae. I came to meet your master. Could you show me the way?"
He spoke with a bright face, but the weight of those three syllables was anything but light.
While the guards at the main gate froze at the mention of the Haeryong-chae Head, Cheong Hae was already slipping past them. His movements were fluid, like a fish weaving through a net.
"Excuse me~!"
He ran along the corridor with light steps, flinging open every door he saw. The first room was piled high with silk fabrics. In the second room, an accountant organizing ledgers screamed.
"Ah, not here, and not here either~"
When he reached the fifth door, a peculiar scent brushed the tip of Cheong Hae's nose. Not the smell of silk or ink, but something like a faint floral fragrance.
"Is it here?"
Without even being sure, he grinned and burst the door open.
"Hello! I'm Cheong Hae, the Head of Haeryong-chae. Is the owner here by any chance..."
His words cut off abruptly.
