Intro
For centuries, the gods had divided mortals into countless categories—heroes and monsters, blessed and cursed, claimed and unclaimed. Now, by decree of Olympus, another distinction had been added. Every demigod would receive a designation: alpha, beta, or omega. No explanation beyond "the will of the gods" had been given. Whether it served some divine purpose or was merely entertainment for immortal beings, Camp Half-Blood had no choice but to accept it.
Dinner arrived beneath a sky streaked with orange and purple. The dining pavilion was packed, but unusually quiet. Campers picked at their food, casting uneasy glances around the tables while Chiron watched solemnly from the front and Mr. D looked thoroughly unimpressed.
Then, without warning, warmth spread through every camper's right hand.
Golden light blossomed across dozens of open palms. Intricate symbols shimmered beneath the skin before settling into permanent marks.
Silence hung over the pavilion.
Percy stared at the symbol on his hand, brow furrowed.
Jason examined his own with calm curiosity.
Clarisse let out a sharp, satisfied grin that looked almost triumphant.
Frank blinked several times, turning his palm over as though expecting the mark to disappear.
