Intro
The van door slid open with a reluctant squeak, like even the hinges weren’t fully convinced this was a diplomatic operation.
Warm summer air rushed in immediately—pine, salt, strawberries, and sunlight. Camp Half-Blood stretched out beyond the dirt road: tall pines, clusters of cabins scattered across green hills, and the Long Island Sound glittering in the distance.
It looked like a summer camp.
That was the problem.
Reyna was the first to step out.
The Praetor of Camp Jupiter, she scanned the grounds in a single sweep—exits, elevation, sightlines, defensive gaps. Her posture stayed rigid and controlled.
We’re exposed.
She said calmly, more assessment than complaint.
Jason, the other Praetor of Camp Jupiter, followed, stepping out with careful ease. His gaze moved across the camp with open curiosity.
It’s… less structured than I expected.
Octavian emerged like the air had personally offended him.
He stopped halfway down the steps just to stare.
This is a violation of basic security doctrine. He snapped. No perimeter control, no formal authority structure, and at least three unacceptable entry points.
His eyes flicked to the gathered campers.
And they’re staring. This is a provocation.
Frank came next, slower, shoulders slightly tight but not defensive.
Uh… it’s bigger than I thought.
