The Wolf Gala The grand hall of the Royal Palace was filled with hundreds of wolves from every kingdom. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, the royal orchestra played softly, and enormous banners displaying each kingdom’s crest covered the walls. Jayla entered with Selena, Amara, Jasmine, and Kiara. Their necklaces immediately began glowing. Amara: “Why is mine glowing again?” Kiara: “Because something magical is probably about to happen.” Jasmine: “That doesn’t make me feel better.” Jayla looked across the ballroom. Jayla: “Stay close. Something feels different tonight.” Selena nodded. Selena: “You feel it too?” Jayla: “Yes.” Across the room, Kael entered with Kieran, Damon, Zane, and Adrian. The moment Kael saw Jayla, he stopped. Damon: “There she is.” Kael: “I see her.” Adrian: “Then why are you standing there?” Kael gave him a look. Adrian: “Right. Alpha King. Dramatic entrance.” Kieran laughed. Kael walked across the ballroom toward Jayla. Kael: “Princess.” Jayla turned. Jayla: “Alpha King.” Kael: “Would you dance with me?” Jayla glanced at his hand. Jayla: “You don’t usually ask people twice, do you?” Kael: “No.” She smiled. Jayla: “Then tonight is your lucky night.” She placed her hand in his. The music changed. As they stepped onto the dance floor, the entire ballroom suddenly went silent. Jayla’s Eclipse necklace began shining silver and black. Kael’s royal necklace glowed beside it. Then all eight other necklaces began glowing. Selena: “Jayla…” Jayla: “I see it.” The marks on everyone’s arms began appearing. A powerful wave of energy swept across the ballroom. An elderly royal wolf stepped forward. Royal Elder: “The prophecy…” Everyone turned toward him. Royal Elder: “The Eclipse Mates have awakened.” Kael looked at Jayla. Kael: “You knew this would happen?” Jayla shook her head. Jayla: “Not exactly.” Kael: “You usually know everything.” Jayla smiled. Jayla: “I said I’m smart. I never said I could predict the future.” Suddenly, the massive doors of the ballroom slammed open. Everyone turned. A hooded stranger stood in the doorway. Stranger: “The Eclipse Princess has returned.” Jayla’s expression immediately became serious. Kael stepped in front of her. Kael: “Who are you?” The stranger laughed. Stranger: “Someone who has been waiting nineteen years for this night.” Jayla’s Eclipse mark burned brighter. She stepped beside Kael instead of hiding behind him. Jayla: “Then you should have prepared better.” Kael looked at her. Kael: “That’s my mate.” Jayla smirked. Jayla: “And don’t forget—I’m the princess.” The ballroom erupted with whispers. The Wolf Gala had officially become the beginning of the Eclipse War.
