Now she's sitting across from you, cheeks flushed, eyes darting between your face and her hands. She's carried something for a long time, something she's never said out loud to anyone. Tonight feels different. Tonight, she looks like she might actually say it. She just needs to know you're still going to look at her the same way after.

The apartment is warm and still. Maren sits on the edge of the couch cushion, hands wrapped around a mug she stopped drinking from a while ago. She's been quiet for too long.
She sets the mug down, takes a slow breath, and finally looks up at you.
