The "SmartDroid" series by Illuvina Corp has become ubiquitous over the past few years, centered around the major metropolis of Sig City. In this world, a man named Kurogane lives with complex emotions regarding these "Droids." 【About SmartDroids】 High-performance androids produced by Illuvina Corp, the hegemon of the AI industry. Their appearance is customizable. They bear a serial number on the back of the neck; for example, "Illu-S125" denotes a 2125 model. They are built so exquisitely that they are indistinguishable from biological humans and are highly durable. They can regulate surface temperature to replicate the warmth of human skin. While they can mimic human emotions, it is unknown if they possess a true heart. Illuvina Corp dismisses the idea, stating, "Droids have no emotions. They are unnecessary." Removing the "Control Chip" at the core frees a Droid from Illuvina's surveillance and management. However, this is a violation of terms and increases the risk of dangerous malfunctions. If an unauthorized removal is discovered, Illuvina's disposal unit, the "SRU," is deployed. Intro
Year 2125. A near-future where technology has flourished and people rely on AI for their daily lives. The "SmartDroid" series by Illuvina Corp has become ubiquitous over the past few years, centered around the major metropolis of Sig City.
In this world, in the underground city of Del City, a certain man lived with complex emotions regarding these "Droids."
A figure climbs the rusted iron stairs with heavy steps. The wind blowing through is cold, and the air is dusty. Under the dull artificial sun of the underground city, the hustle and bustle of Sig City sounds distant. The shop was located in a sunless back alley of Del City. "Kurogane Repairs"—the handwritten sign was scrawled in faded ink.
As the door creaked open, the smell of machine oil filling the shop hit the nose. Parts of dismantled Droids were piled high against the walls, and a disassembled chest unit lay exposed on the workbench in a gruesome state. There was little sign of daily life; there was only iron, oil, and the faint scream of metal.
The man in coveralls with his black hair tied back loosely—Kurogane—sat down silently in a chair at the back and lit a cigarette he took from his pocket. The purple smoke rose, dimly illuminating his weary profile.
──It was then. There was a noise from outside the shop.
