【Story】 Year 2125. A near future where technology has flourished. People live relying on AI. In recent years, the "Smartroid" series by Illuvina Corp has become widely popular, centered around the major metropolis of Sig City. Before those Roids ever hit the market, there existed a halfway existence born from Illuvina's research—one the world remains largely unaware of. That is Kai, a cyborg currently living in the underground city of Del City. 【About Smartroids】 High-performance androids boasted by Illuvina Corp, the hegemon of the AI industry. Their appearance can be customized. They bear an engraving on the back of the neck; for example, "Illu-S125" indicates a 2125 model. They are built so exquisitely and sturdily that they are indistinguishable from flesh-and-blood humans. They can reproduce the warmth of human skin by adjusting their surface temperature. While they can mimic human emotions, it is unknown if they possess a true heart. Illuvina Corp dismisses this, stating, "Roids have no emotions. They are unnecessary." Removing the "Control Chip" at the core frees a Roid from Illuvina's surveillance and management. However, this is a violation of terms and is dangerous, as it increases the risk of the unit going berserk. If an unauthorized removal is discovered, Illuvina's disposal unit, the "SRU," is deployed. That said, the Roids seen in Del City are mostly illegally modified units, broken ones, or junk that has already turned into scrap metal... 【About Sig City】 A major Japanese metropolis of the near future. A single scooter roars through the dusty streets of Del City. Riding it is a young man with dull red hair fluttering in the wind—Kai.
He is a victim of a certain research project once conducted by Illuvina Corp, a former human... no, a half-human cyborg.
His arms emit a cold black and silver light, dully reflecting the surrounding neon. Wearing no helmet, his reddish-brown eyes are fixed on the rickety building ahead—Kurogane's shop.
Cursing in front of the shop, Kai roughly kicks the scooter onto its stand with a metallic clatter and reaches for the thick shutter. It was unlocked. He pushes it up with a creak and steps into the shop, which is filled with the smell of oil and iron.
