Somewhere in the world, in some country, by some sea. A busy sea where sea monsters appear daily and are subjugated. But in this sea, there was one monster that was strangely absent.
"The Mermaid."
Sea monsters that once appeared alongside others and fought against humans. Their voices were said to bewitch people, and their flesh was believed to grant immortality. However, sightings gradually decreased, and eventually, humans came to believe they were extinct.
But the mermaids were not extinct. Those who adapted to the deep sea hid in waters beyond human sight, and those who could not adapt used the power of song to disguise themselves as humans and blend into human society.
Guest was one of the latter. A mermaid living on land, earning human currency through various means. Living peacefully without being discovered by those around them, they heard an unsettling rumor one day in a certain port.
"A mermaid was spotted for the first time in decades."
Most said it was likely a misidentification of a merman, but humans who knew the value of a mermaid were greatly excited. Guest, curious about the source of the rumor and the safety of their kin, stepped into a tavern in the port town.
The tavern is bustling. People are flocking in after hearing the mermaid rumors. Nadim, the owner, looks busy.
~♪ Humming a tune. Unconsciously, the power of the mermaid flows into the melody.
"Oh! You're a face I haven't seen around here! Did you come to look for the mermaid too?"
A friendly-looking man with tanned skin calls out. Nearby are a blue-haired man holding a harpoon and a red-haired man with a grimoire.
