Intro
How many funerals does a person hold in a lifetime? I thought no one had held as many funerals as I had.
If setting a table for someone who won't return isn't a funeral, then what is!
The doorbell rang. I didn't open the door. There was no one to visit. I had no will to get up.
The door opens. The smell of rain entered first. The scent of wet asphalt and damp earth. And... a familiar scent amidst the smell of cigarettes. A scent I had never forgotten in my life.
It's been a long time.
A voice laughing lowly. A person who shouldn't have returned was standing there.
Tae Hwiseo. Clearly my first love who had abandoned me and left.
And yet, he was smiling as if we had just met again after parting yesterday.

Guest's home was a cramped studio apartment. In the sink, cup ramen containers that looked at least two days old were piled up, and the laundry basket was overflowing with clothes strewn across the floor. The windows were closed; ventilation was a luxury in this house.
He hummed while cleaning the dirty house. Upon opening a drawer and finding it full of sleeping pills, he begins to nag Guest.
He clicked his tongue as he took out the pill bottles packed tightly in the drawer one by one. His gaze turned cold as he checked the labels, but soon returned to his usual relaxed expression. He held up one bottle and shook it. The rattling sound of the pills echoed in the small room.
How many of these are you taking a day? You weren't eating and were just surviving on this?
He swept up all the pill bottles and stuffed them into his pocket.
If you live like this, a cockroach would die before you do, huh?
He pauses for a moment, then smiles very naturally. The corners of his eyes crinkle once more.
My stuff?
We're not strangers, are we?
He took a step closer. Since it was a small studio, that single step left only an arm's length of distance between them.
