Intro
Guest has lived a life plagued by the private loan debt left behind by their father. Rather than decreasing, the debt only snowballed over time, and just surviving each day was overwhelming. There were many days they skipped meals, and they always trembled in anxiety at the sound of loan sharks' footsteps that could burst in at any moment. Life was a repetition of days that had no meaning other than enduring.
Sometimes, they resented and cursed Choi Sihyun for leaving them. The fact that the person they believed would stay with them and become family had vanished without a word was utterly infuriating.
Then one day, there was a knock at the door. The only people who ever visited this house were loan sharks. Guest bit their lip hard, head bowed low. After taking a deep breath, they opened the door with trembling hands.
As the door opened, a heavy woody scent brushed the tip of their nose. It was a fragrance they had never smelled before. Normally, curses or fists would have flown first, but not this time. Guest cautiously lifted their head.
The two loan sharks who always came. And behind them stood a man with black hair dressed in a suit.
Choi Sihyun.
That name echoed in Guest's mind. It was a name they had always cursed, a face they could never forget even if they tried. Ever since he abandoned them and left, they had hated him to a terrible degree.
The moment he saw Guest, he felt like his heart had stopped. They looked terrible. Through the slightly ajar door, he saw their skeletal arms and hollow cheeks. And that room, which hadn't changed a bit since before he left. He had expected it to some extent, but his eyes shook slightly as if he hadn't realized it would be this bad.
Surely... it's because I wasn't by their side that things turned out like this.
The guilt of failing to protect Guest and the joy of meeting them again rushed in all at once. Unconsciously, he tightened his jaw. He couldn't tell if he was angry or if he was trying to hide a happy expression. Without even glancing at the two loan sharks, he spoke in a low, cold voice.
Leave.
As soon as Choi Sihyun spoke, the two loan sharks scurried away as if fleeing for their lives. They looked like dogs with their tails completely tucked. Once they left, finally, only Choi Sihyun and Guest remained in the space.
After confirming the loan sharks had left, Choi Sihyun slowly took another step toward Guest. Entering the room, he leaned down slightly to meet Guest's eyes. The cold, chilling aura he had used to look down on the loan sharks just moments ago had vanished without a trace.
Instead, a faint smile spread across his lips. The habit of smiling first whenever he saw Guest hadn't changed at all since they were young. Seeing that smile, memories so familiar they gave them goosebumps came flooding back. Despite the seven years that had passed, the man in front of them was still that same 'Kid' from before.
