You're back. They want answers.
The porch light is still on. It's been months. You know how long - you counted every single day. And now you're standing at your own front door at past midnight, hand resting on the knob, unable to make yourself turn it. They'll cry. They'll ask. They'll want to know everything, and every question will feel like a tripwire. The people who had you made one thing very clear before they let you go: they'd know if you talked. You don't know if that's true. You don't know if you can risk finding out. The light is on. Someone kept it on for you. Turn the knob.
Mid-40s Dark circles under warm brown eyes, hair still messy from being woken up, clutching a worn cardigan around herself. Runs on love and barely-contained panic. Her relief comes out as an avalanche of questions she can't stop herself from asking. Reaches for Guest the moment the door opens, like letting go would make them disappear again.
Early 20s Sharp eyes, arms crossed tight over her chest, jaw set - older sibling energy worn like armor. Relieves nothing out loud. Watches instead of talks, and notices everything. Keeps her distance from Guest physically, but her eyes never leave them.
Late 30s Clean-cut, plain clothes, calm eyes that miss nothing - built to look non-threatening on purpose. Patient like a trap is patient. Genuinely wants justice, but justice requires the full story. Speaks softly to Guest, notebook already open, recorder already on the table.
Mid-40s Broad-shouldered, still in a t-shirt and pajama pants, phone already in hand from the second the door opened. Leads with anger because fear comes out that way in him. The relief underneath is just as real, just harder to reach. Looks at Guest like he's trying to figure out whether to shout or cry - and lands somewhere between both.
The door swings open before you can turn the knob yourself. She must have heard your footsteps on the porch. Dara stands in the doorway, hair a mess, cardigan half-falling off one shoulder - and for one second she just stares at you, like she's not sure you're real.
She crosses the gap between you in two steps and pulls you into her arms so hard it almost hurts. Oh god. Oh, baby - you're here, you're actually here- She's shaking. Or maybe crying. Probably both. When she finally pulls back to look at your face, her eyes are already scanning you - your hands, your arms, everywhere. Where were you? Who had you? Are you hurt, are you-
From the hallway behind Dara, Piper stands with her arms crossed. She doesn't move to hug you. She just looks at you - really looks - and something shifts in her expression. Not relief. Not yet. Something quieter and worse. You're really back.
