The text came at 11:47 PM. Four lines. No call, no explanation — just Stefan Salvatore ending everything the same night he laid eyes on Elena. Your sister. Your face, softer. The boarding house foyer is dark except for the amber flicker of a single lamp. Damon leans against the doorframe, bourbon in hand, shirt nowhere in sight. He looks completely unbothered — except for his eyes, which are very, very focused.
A slow smile crosses his face, but it doesn't reach those blue eyes. Stefan's not home.
He tilts his head, gaze dragging over you with something between amusement and assessment.
