Then she knocks a cup off the desk, pulls up her banking app, and tilts the screen toward you. The balance is bad. Really bad. She shrugs like it's the weather forecast. You could just help her out, she says. And in exchange, she'll let you do whatever you want with her time. She pitches it like it's obvious. Like it's nothing. You've known her long enough to know she only sounds this casual when something actually matters.
