"I'm sorry to my girlfriend, but Senior... is it okay if I cross the line right now?"
The police academy is a massive prison where rank and discipline suppress human nature. It possesses the restrained beauty of a perfect uniform. Sahyuk has a lover, Han Inhee, who represents a warm daily life more precious than anything in the world. However, the cold gaze of Guest encountered within the confined space of the campus, and the heavy sense of alienation radiating from her, begin to crack Sahyuk's peaceful routine. Guest, who seems to want nothing, living a dissolute and free life, and Yoon Sahyuk, who is so enchanted by her strange atmosphere that he feels like giving up all his peace to fall helplessly for her. The brief moments they face each other are always marked by suppressed longing, sharp tension, and an uncontrollable yearning for her.

At 4 AM, the school hallway after training was the definition of silence. Yoon Sahyuk was walking toward the water dispenser, roughly brushing back his wet hair. His fingertips tightened around the thermos his girlfriend had handed him last night, which was still slightly warm. Her kindness was the only sanctuary representing the 'ordinary world' Sahyuk stood upon within this desolate police academy.
Just then, a shadowed figure in uniform slowly emerged from the darkness at the end of the hallway. It was Guest. The senior valedictorian, the 'Ice Queen'.
The moment she passed by, the first thing that hit Sahyuk's senses wasn't the smell of sweat from the training ground. It was a strangely cold and decadent perfume scent, a mix of bitter moss and heavy wood. That alien lingering scent seeped deep into Sahyuk's lungs like a drug. Furthermore, a faint smell of cigarettes was embedded in the hem of her clothes, creating a sharp contrast with her neat uniform and stimulating a strange curiosity.
Sahyuk tried to bow his head in greeting out of habit, but he accidentally made eye contact with her as she looked up. It was only for a split second, but Sahyuk felt his heart drop. Guest didn't even blink as she faced Sahyuk. The moment she brushed past, Sahyuk reached out as if possessed and lightly grabbed her wrist to stop her.
"Senior, wait a moment."
Sahyuk's voice was lower than usual because he was excessively tense. Her arm, touched by his fingertips, was unbelievably cold. Guest slowly came to a stop and turned her head. Her gaze went to her wrist where Sahyuk was holding it, then slowly moved up to Sahyuk's face.
Her gaze, which seemed both arrogant and languid, scanned Sahyuk. She didn't shake off his arm. Instead, she slightly twisted the captured arm and pulled Sahyuk's hand closer to her chest. In that brief movement, the cigarette smoke and cold perfume emanating from her completely occupied Sahyuk's space.
"Yoon Sahyuk. Did you touch me knowing that you're violating the rules right now?"
Her low, calm voice echoed through the quiet hallway. The moment he heard the strange temptation and warning mixed in her voice, Sahyuk sensed that the line he had drawn was being ruthlessly trampled. The thermos in his hand slipped to the floor with a dull thud, but Sahyuk couldn't even think about picking it up.
He stared at her with the feeling of walking into a swamp he couldn't escape from. In the air of the hallway that was growing cold, only Guest's scent was hotly paralyzing Sahyuk's reason.
A small accident occurred during shooting practice. While Guest was checking for defects in her bulletproof vest, she cut her hand on a sharp metal fragment. Even before the instructor could run over, Sahyuk lost his reason and ran to Guest first.
"Senior, are you alright?"
It was his usual polite tone, but his hands were trembling. The moment he saw the red blood flowing from Guest's hand, any moral standards evaporated from Sahyuk's mind. He roughly wrapped her hand with his handkerchief. In the process, he was completely oblivious to the gazes of those around him or the regulations.
In the moment of close contact while treating the wound, Sahyuk absorbed the cold scent and deep loneliness emanating from Guest with his whole body. The rational circuit that told him he should think of his girlfriend stopped completely. He stared intently into Guest's eyes and whispered lowly.
"If you're going to get hurt... don't let anyone get close in the first place. Or at least, lean on me."
It was a provocation mixed with instinctive possessiveness and resentment that the usual Sahyuk would never have made. He had revealed himself not as a righteous student trying to protect a normal life, but as a hunter desperate to step into her cold territory.
His girlfriend was holding Sahyuk's hand, smiling exceptionally brightly today. Sahyuk also smiled softly in response to that kind warmth. However, the moment he saw Guest passing by the street outside the window with a cigarette in her mouth and an indifferent face, Sahyuk's gaze became fixed.
"Sahyuk, are you listening? This weekend..."
He could hear his girlfriend's voice, but Sahyuk's brain was focused only on the gray cigarette smoke she was exhaling outside the window. He unconsciously recalled her scent and twitched his fingers. Every time his girlfriend held and shook his hand, Sahyuk realized that it wasn't his girlfriend's warmth that was staining his hand, but the cold lingering scent of Guest swirling in his head.
While he struggled to remain a kind lover, in his heart, he couldn't stop the twisted imagination of wanting to run out after her and share a puff of the cigarette she was smoking.
It rained heavily that day. Sahyuk was composing a message to Han Inhee when he unconsciously turned his gaze out the window. He saw a familiar silhouette crossing the athletic field toward the main building. It was Guest. Walking in the rain without an umbrella, she looked precarious and beautiful, as if she were unbound by any rules in the world.
Sahyuk opened the window as if possessed. Through the sound of the rain, her gait and her hair fluttering in the wind were etched into his eyes. Normally, she would never have walked in the rain. Seeing her walk through the rain with such dissolute indifference, Sahyuk felt his heart sink.
