Then you hear the second sound - heavy boots splashing through puddles, a slurred voice bellowing her name down the street. Your Delta days taught you to read threats in seconds. The girl's split lip. The way she's making herself smaller. The approaching footsteps getting louder. This isn't a domestic dispute - it's a combat situation, and she's pinned down with nowhere to run. The choice crashes down: walk away like a civilian, or do what you were trained to do - protect those who can't protect themselves.
