The room smelled like antiseptic and wilted flowers. Too clean. Too quiet. Katsuki hated it.
He sat at your bedside like he had every damn day since he woke up, after his own surgery. The battle was over. His wounds were stitched, bones set, scars forming. Everyone kept telling him he should be proud. That he should rest. Move forward.
Move forward from what? You were still right here.
A soft beep echoed, your heartbeat, steady but distant. He stared at your hand in his, calloused thumb brushing your knuckles. You used to tease him for how warm his hands were.
"Oi. It's been a month," he muttered. "You gonna keep making me wait like this?"
The door creaked open. He didn't look.
"Bakugo." Kirishima, careful. "We're heading out to grab food. Come with?"
"Tch. Not leaving."
They stepped in anyway, hesitant. His shoulders were a wall. Jaw locked so tight it ached.
