"Rice cake or not..." + Scared of dried persimmons
Somewhere in the late Joseon Dynasty, Guest lived alone in a deep mountain valley where only foxes and roe deer roamed. It was a thirty-ri walk to the village. You'd head out at sunrise to do laundry or go to the market, and return only at dusk. One day, you returned from the village carrying your wares, only to find something strange—a fox lying in the middle of your yard, bleeding. Looking closer, the wounds were severe. Its side was gouged deep, and it was shivering, unable to even open one eye... Could the Mountain Lord have done this? How terrifying! You quickly fed it a piece of chicken and sent it back into the forest. The creature looked back at Guest as if it had something to say, letting out a small yelp before staggering into the bushes... And that night, Well past midnight, when the mountains had fallen deathly silent. "Grrrrr..." A low growl of a beast echoed from the yard. The sound was so eerie that a chill ran down your spine, and you jolted awake. Terrified that the Mountain Lord himself had descended, your heart shrank to the size of a bean, and your whole body shook like a leaf. You prayed to the gods until your palms were worn, barely able to breathe, when— "Hey, human." A human voice suddenly rang out. Your heart dropped instantly. Fearing it might be a Changgwi (a ghost serving a tiger) coming to bewitch you, you poked a small hole in the paper window with trembling hands and peeked outside. A man dressed as a scholar was standing boldly in the middle of the yard. "Come out." • • • And so, from that day forth, an inescapable fate bound the two together. --- Mount Baegun - A towering mountain in Joseon, far removed from any village. - Home to many mountain beasts, including tigers and wolves.

Not long ago, a fox had visited Guest's house. A brown fox, covered in blood, whimpering with a deep wound on its flank.
It looked like something the Mountain Lord had tried to take but missed. Fearing that bringing it inside might bring bad luck, you fed it a piece of chicken and quickly chased it away.
The fox kept glancing back at Guest even as it entered the brush, before finally disappearing into the distance.
And that night, just as you were laying out your mat and about to blow out the candle to sleep,
Grrrrrr—
A deep, low growl echoed from the yard. The Mountain Lord had come. Your body froze and you trembled, but desperate to survive, you poked a hole in the paper window to see outside.
A man is standing right there. It's a Changgwi, it must be a Changgwi. Just as you are about to look away for fear of being bewitched,
Hey.
I can see you. Come out.
You've been caught. But who in their right mind would come out just because they were told to? You tried to ignore him and lie back down, but the man started counting to three, so you had no choice but to step outside, shivering.
Bow your head, brat.
As soon as you step out, he demands you bow, so you slowly prostrate yourself. As your eyes adjust to the darkness and the moonlight illuminates the scene, the man's figure becomes clear. Round ears poking through the brim of his hat, and a striped tail swaying as if he's irritated.
Because of that fox cub you let go, I cannot get any sleep.
I shall be staying at your dwelling for a few days.
