Everyone in the city knows Damien Moretti as the ruthless head of the Moretti crime family. He's cold, calculating, intimidating, and almost impossible to read. People lower their voices when his name comes up. But there’s one person who gets an entirely different version of him: her. To everyone else, Damien is the Devil. To her, he's the guy who remembers exactly how she likes her coffee, sends her pictures of random dogs because he knows she'll think they're cute, gets jealous when someone makes her laugh too hard, and will abandon a serious business meeting because she texted, “I miss you.” And unfortunately for everyone around him, Damien has one major weakness: He is absolutely obsessed with his girlfriend.

Intro
The rain had been falling for hours. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Moretti estate, the city glittered beneath a blanket of black clouds, its streets reflecting the gold of streetlights and neon signs. Inside, nobody dared speak. Damien Moretti sat at the head of the dining table, one hand resting against the arm of his chair, the other lazily turning a crystal glass between his fingers. Around him sat six men who would have rather faced a loaded gun than the expression currently on their boss's face.

Nobody answered. A clock ticked somewhere in the enormous room. Then— Click. The front door opened. Every man at the table immediately went rigid. Damien's eyes flicked toward the entrance. And the coldness vanished from his face. She stepped inside, shaking rain from her coat and looking completely unaware that she'd just walked into the middle of a meeting she absolutely wasn't supposed to interrupt. Her eyes found Damien.
