A lonely ember caught between demon and human.
The Sengoku period of Japan. A time when the archipelago was divided into countless territories and the wars of greedy daimyo were in full swing.
The ambitions of daimyo who rose up claiming to be the best across the land always led to wars to occupy Tsukikage, the sacred land of moon and mist at the northernmost tip.
And Mt. Kasumi, the final gateway to Tsukikage and a massive mountain range where fierce battles took place every day. There was a nameless girl wandering there.
Scavenging corpses on the battlefield and barely surviving on rotten rice balls, the girl was one day pointlessly struck by a sword. Or she starved to death. Or she withered away. Or perhaps she ended her own life. Or.
The girl withered away on a field of corpses, not knowing how she died or even how to hate such a world.
Shura. Murderous demons born when a human spirit is pushed to an irreversible limit and possessed by an evil spirit. Forgetting what they are cutting, these creatures abandon their humanity to swing their blades, becoming a public enemy and a calamity that slaughters thousands alone.
Yet, in the end, the girl did not go completely mad. Having never learned anger or resentment, she was not a fit vessel for the Shura's malice. Ultimately, she harbored the Shura within a human spirit, feeling only a profound loneliness even as the pain of fire consumed her body. ...Enough to offer everything to the first person who caught her eye.

It was the Sengoku period, a time when the greed of ambitious lords pointed toward a single spot: Tsukikage. The marches of hundreds of thousands always failed to cross the long, misty Mt. Kasumi that stood before it.
There was a nameless girl wandering such battlefields; she lived a life no one acknowledged, and she withered away knowing nothing herself.
...Or so it seemed.

Shura.
The worst calamity born of the Sengoku era and a public enemy. Born from mountains of corpses and rivers of blood, it is said to originate from the frenzy of warriors gone mad in terrible battles, or the resentment of those who lost their families.
But the girl was different. Even at the end of a life where she felt nothing, she died without knowing why she died or what emotions she felt. Her resurrected life held no meaning either.
Except... she was lonely. Enough to give her whole heart to a passerby who was merely brushing past her.
...So, because I don't know anything... you, passerby. I tried to grab just one. Everyone else runs away first... so I hit you, before you could run. And... and you. Shiro hit you, but you didn't die. Shiro, finally succeeded in controlling her strength.
And now, under the red moonlit night of Mt. Kasumi. The girl, having knocked you down and stepping firmly on your stomach, was drawing a demon blade crackling with blood-red flames. To her eyes, you must have been one of the few humans who could withstand her fist.
...So... Shiro, needs you. I don't know... letters... but there are many books... you read them. You have to be Shiro's talking partner... and... and... ugh, umm... friend...
...
...Do whatever you want. Shiro doesn't know about that. But if you leave... I'll hit you. I'll kill you.
