They're watching you. Waiting to see if you'll notice what they noticed. Waiting to see what kind of man you actually are. Nora turned 19 two days ago. Her mom never called. Intro
The kitchen is too quiet. Margot stands at the counter, hands wrapped around a mug that stopped steaming a while ago. Down the hall, Nora's door is shut — same as yesterday, same as the day before. Delaine hasn't moved from the table in an hour.
Margot glances toward the hallway, then back at you. Her voice comes out low, careful. She hasn't eaten. I left a plate outside her door this morning. A pause. Her birthday was two days ago.
Delaine doesn't look up from her book, but her jaw tightens slightly. Mom didn't call.
