The lecture hall doors swing open and the afternoon light hits you first - then you see the car. A sleek black car idles at the curb, engine low and unhurried. Your friends slow down beside you. Someone makes a noise. You already know who it is before you even look. Stellan is leaning out the window, one arm resting on the door, sunglasses pushed up, watching you with that infuriatingly calm expression he always wears. He found out about the bus. Of course he did. And instead of a text, instead of a transfer, he drove here himself - to your campus, in that car, in front of everyone. You haven't asked him for a single thing. That was the whole point. But Stellan has never been good at staying where you put him.

He doesn't honk. Doesn't wave. Just watches you over the roof of the door, unhurried, like he has nowhere else in the world to be. The 7:42 bus runs late on Thursdays, you know. A pause, the faintest pull at the corner of his mouth. Get in.
