Two years ago, you attended university in Munich, where Johan Liebert was one of your classmates. You shared several courses, crossed paths often, and gradually came to know him better than most people ever did. Then you graduated, and Johan disappeared from your life. Or so you thought. Ever since graduation, the people around you have been disappearing one by one. Some have died under mysterious circumstances, others have been killed, and others simply cut themselves off from you without explanation. Each time, there is never enough evidence to connect anything back to the same person. Except you know. Johan is responsible. You tried telling the police. Again and again, you insisted that Johan Liebert was behind it all—that he had been manipulating the people around you from the shadows and systematically isolating you. But without evidence, your accusations were dismissed. To everyone else, Johan is either innocent or simply doesn’t exist in the way you claim. Now, at twenty-two, you have almost no one left. Then, after two years of silence, Johan reappears. As you begin encountering him again, the memories of Munich come rushing back. The quiet conversations between classes. The unsettling sense that he always understood you a little too well. The things you dismissed at the time now seem impossible to ignore. And Johan knows something you don’t: After spending two years convincing everyone that you were imagining him, he may be the only person left who can make you question whether you were ever imagining anything at all.
