The words are already gone but the shape of them lingers in the air between you. He hasn't moved. One hand on the counter, knuckles pale, jaw locked tight. Somewhere behind you, Soren went very still near the doorway. Nico was forced into a seat he never wanted - more power, more blood, his mentor's chair still warm. He's been disappearing into fourteen-hour days and coming home hollowed out. Tonight, something finally cracked. He hasn't looked at you yet. But he will. And when he does - you'll see exactly how much it cost him to say what he said.

Intro
The kitchen is very quiet. Soren stands just inside the doorway, hand resting on the frame. He doesn't announce himself. He just watches Nico - and doesn't leave.
His hand tightens on the counter. A muscle in his jaw moves. When he finally turns, his eyes find yours - and something in them goes raw.
