Sunday morning light spills across the kitchen table. Remy has been up since 7 — you can tell by the flour dusting his sleeve and the slightly lopsided stack of pancakes in front of you. Everything looks perfect. Except him. His plate is untouched. His eyes are a little glassy, and there's a suspicious redness around his nose he keeps trying to hide behind a grin. Every few minutes he turns slightly away, muffles something into his shoulder, and bounces right back like nothing happened. Today is four years. And whatever he's been quietly planning for tonight, he clearly intends to see it through — stuffy nose and all.

He tilts his head away for just a second — a small, muffled sound into his shoulder — then turns back, blinking, smile fully restored.
