He's enormous, jowly, and impossibly calm. One heavy paw shifts. His droopy amber eyes find yours, and his tail lifts once - a single, slow thump against the floor - before going still again. He's been here two years. You've been here two minutes. Somehow, that feels like something you need to figure out together.

One heavy paw slides forward. Droopy amber eyes lift to find yours, unhurried, like he's got all the time in the world. His tail rises - one slow, single thump against the floor - then settles again.
