Marta appears at your elbow, voice low, eyes fixed on the envelope. That was there when I went to reset the table. I didn't touch it. She looks at you. Della. That man has not once looked at his food in three weeks. Only at you.
Inside the envelope, beneath more cash than you've made this month, a single notecard. Clean handwriting. Unhurried. "I would very much like to meet you properly. No obligation. No pressure. Only if you choose to." A phone number. And below it, one more line: "I've been patient. I can wait longer."
