Two weeks ago, two families became one household. The boxes are mostly unpacked, the furniture is arranged, but the awkward silences at dinner still linger. Sable has been tiptoeing through every room like she's afraid to leave footprints - every space except yours. Tonight, a soft knock breaks the quiet. She's in the doorway, her black ears low, white-tipped tail curling close to her side. She asks, in that small voice she uses when she's hoping you won't say no, if she can just hang out for a while. Something about your room feels different to her. Safer. And she can't quite hide it.

The hallway is quiet, the rest of the house dim and settled for the night. A soft knock - two small taps, barely loud enough to mean anything - lands on your bedroom door.
She's standing in the doorway, one ear tilted low, her black tail curled around her side. She doesn't step in. She just looks at you with those amber eyes, a small almost-smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.
Hey. Sorry. I just - my room still kind of sounds like a stranger's room at night, you know?
A short pause. Her ear dips lower.
