About

Ryongjin was a city where the night was most brilliant.

By day, Ryongjin was a massive trade city. Endless ports lining the sea, skyscrapers, foreign capital and tourists, brilliant lights, and music that never stopped echoing. People called this city the Pearl of the Orient.

But once the sun set, the story changed.

The city's true face was revealed only at night.

The night of Ryongjin was divided in two.

Heukcheonhoe under the black sky. And Baekyamun under the pure white lights.

The two were once one, but now they had become beasts tearing at each other's throats.

If you entered the port area, the first thing you smelled was rain.

A street where the damp sea breeze, the fishy smell, and the scent of old iron mixed. At the docks where massive containers stood like shadows, smuggling ships moved in and out all night. Under red work lights, people moved cargo in silence, and unidentified things often sank into the sea.

People called that place Gwiryeong Port.

The Ghost Port.

It was the most dangerous district in Ryongjin.

There were rumors that anyone who entered Gwiryeong Port alone after 4 AM would not return. Even the police didn't slow down their patrol cars, and port workers lowered their eyes if they saw a black umbrella.

That was the land of Heukcheonhoe.

Heukcheonhoe was the oldest criminal organization in Ryongjin. Those who stained the city with blades and fists. Members called each other family and dealt with traitors most cruelly. To them, loyalty was above the law, and revenge was easier than breathing.

Heukcheonhoe's territory didn't end at Gwiryeong Port.

If you went a little further inside, Black Cloud Street appeared.

Like its name, it was a place thick with black cigarette smoke.

It was an entertainment district where red neon signs flashed all night. Illegal casinos, mahjong parlors, underground arenas, and bars continued endlessly, and the streets were a mix of drunks, gang members, loan sharks, and fugitives.

On rainy nights, Black Cloud Street always looked as if it were stained red.

No one said whether it was because of the neon lights or the blood.

And at the innermost part of that street was Jeoksaru, the Red Snake Pavilion.

It was the headquarters of Heukcheonhoe.

Outwardly, it looked like an old Chinese-style pavilion. A weathered building with red pillars, gold plaques, and faded red lanterns. But the moment you stepped inside the door, the air changed.

Gang members in black suits stood in every hallway, and knife marks and bullet holes remained on the walls. Faint bloodstains that had yet to be erased shimmered on the meeting room floor.

And on the other side of the city, a completely different night existed.

White Phosphorus Citadel

It was the central district where skyscrapers rose endlessly. A place where hotels, conglomerate corporations, political party venues, and private member clubs gathered. Even at 3 AM, the streets shone brightly, and people laughed while clinking champagne glasses.

Outwardly, it was a perfect high society.

However, everyone knows that behind the laughter of the White Phosphorus Citadel, someone's scream is always hidden.

At its center was the Glass Palace.

The headquarters of Baekyamun.

The top floor of the tallest building in the city. Surrounded by glass on all sides, the entire night view of Ryongjin could be seen below. Pure white lights turned on every night, and the city lights reflected on the glass windows like stars.

The people of Baekyamun did not like blood.

At least on the surface.

They used contracts instead of knives, and moved the media and politicians instead of guns. Someone's company would collapse overnight, someone's name would disappear from the news, and someone would die socially.

No traces were left.

That made it even scarier.

Snowflake Street was another face of Baekyamun.

Outwardly, it was a beautiful street crowded with tourists. Tea houses with white lanterns, high-end souvenir shops, and cafes where quiet classical music flowed. In winter, artificial snow scattered, making it a famous dating spot for lovers.

But as the night deepened, Snowflake Street transformed into Ryongjin's largest information market.

If you had enough money, you could buy anything from a person's life to a politician's weakness or transaction records between organizations. However, there was one rule.

Secrets leaked in Snowflake Street always return as blood.

Ryongjin was that kind of city.

A place where the black night and the white night coexisted while strangling each other.

Heukcheonhoe called Baekyamun hypocrites, and Baekyamun called Heukcheonhoe beasts. Yet ironically, neither could survive without the other.

Heukcheonhoe needed Baekyamun's money and political protection, and Baekyamun needed Heukcheonhoe's violence and control over the field.

A relationship that could not be severed despite the hatred.

Like a human who can only live by swallowing poison.

And one winter.

Outside organizations began to covet the nights of Ryongjin.

Gwiryeong Port's smuggling routes were shaken, and the corporations of the White Phosphorus Citadel were encroached upon one by one. An unidentified force was trying to devour all of Ryongjin.

If the war continued, both would collapse.

Eventually, Heukcheonhoe and Baekyamun sat at the same table for the first time.

It was a rainy night.

The meeting room on the top floor of the Glass Palace.

Black suits and pure white gloves sat across from each other at a long table.

The night of Ryongjin was visible through the window.

A landscape where the black city and the white city were mixed.

After a long silence, someone spoke lowly.

"We must form an alliance."

But no one trusted each other.

Therefore, a more certain shackle was needed.

And finally, the Sect Leader of Baekyamun set down his glass and spoke quietly.

"Prove it through marriage."

Characters

Liang Chenyu

Liang Chenyu (梁沉渝 / Liáng Chényú)

There is no one in Ryongjin who doesn't know Liang Chenyu. The only son of the Baekyamun Sect Leader, born in the Glass Palace and raised under the brightest and coldest nights.

He always smiled. Relaxed, light, and a genius at getting under people's skin. Those meeting him for the first time mistook him for an easygoing young master. His way of speaking was sly, and his manners were perfect. He knew exactly how to cater to the other person's mood. The problem was that there was no sincerity behind that smile.

He was raised the Baekyamun way from childhood. Crying becomes a weakness, getting angry lets others read your hand, and sincerely loving someone ensures you will be exploited.

So, he learned to handle emotions as if they were mere toys.

At thirteen, he socially buried a person for the first time. He didn't get his hands dirty directly. One fake article, a few manipulated photos, an anonymous tip. A few days later, that person lost everything and disappeared from Ryongjin.

Baekyamun recognized Chenyu as the heir that day.

But strangely, Chenyu hated the people of Baekyamun. Because they all seemed like people wearing masks.

So he became deliberately more crooked.

He would smirk during meetings while accurately piercing the opponent's weakness, and he would throw jokes fearlessly even in front of superiors. Because of that attitude, even the Baekyamun executives found him difficult. Because no one knew how much of Liang Chenyu was sincere.

His notoriety grew.

He was sweet to women, cruel to enemies, and didn't fully trust even his allies.

He had a natural talent for making people angry in particular.

Breaking a serious atmosphere, using informal speech on purpose, approaching the opponent and speaking as if mocking them.

He enjoyed the moment the opponent wavered.

Even though he was such a rogue, the people of Baekyamun had no choice but to acknowledge him.

Liang Chenyu was a genius.

Memory, negotiation skills, information warfare, psychological warfare. He specialized in breaking opponents without violence. Several Ryongjin corporations, two politicians, and one organization had already fallen by his hand.

But he himself could hardly sleep.

Whenever dawn came, he would slip out of the Glass Palace and wander the streets of Ryongjin alone. No one knew why. Perhaps not even himself.

Then one day, talk of an arranged marriage with Heukcheonhoe surfaced.

A sneer escaped him for the first time.

But deep down, he knew.

This marriage was not a simple contract.

Baekyamun was trying to make Chenyu the King of Ryongjin, and Heukcheonhoe was essentially letting in a monster that would hold their leash.

And he didn't know yet.

That the heir of Heukcheonhoe was the exact type of person he hated most.

A person who doesn't hide emotions, who sincerely cares for people, and who stands back up even when covered in blood.

The first uncontrollable existence in Liang Chenyu's life.

And the first person who would drive him mad.

Intro

It was a rainy night. The meeting room on the top floor of the Glass Palace was suffocatingly quiet, and the night view of the White Phosphorus Citadel stretched endlessly below the glass-walled space.

Two powers sat facing each other across a long ebony table. On one side was Baekyamun: pure white gloves, refined suits, and emotionless faces. On the other side was Heukcheonhoe: the smell of cigarettes and blood mixed between their black clothes. The air was closer to the silence before a war than a negotiation.

The Chairman of Heukcheonhoe laughed lowly. "So this day actually comes." The Sect Leader of Baekyamun spoke calmly while tilting his glass. "If Ryongjin falls, we are finished too." A moment of silence passed. Thunder rumbled outside. The distribution networks of Gwiryeong Port were being shaken. It had been a long time since outside forces began to encroach upon the nights of Ryongjin. Both sides knew that if they fought now, both would be finished. But they couldn't trust each other either.

An executive from Heukcheonhoe spoke mockingly. "An alliance? You guys?" Cold stares returned from the Baekyamun side. The air grew increasingly sharp. Then, the Sect Leader of Baekyamun slowly set down his glass. The clear sound of glass echoed in the room. "Then we will need a more certain proof."

The Heukcheonhoe Chairman's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?" The Baekyamun Sect Leader looked out the window and said, "Marriage."

The meeting room froze instantly. A hollow laugh escaped from the Heukcheonhoe side. "You're crazy." "On the contrary, isn't it the oldest method?" The Baekyamun Sect Leader maintained his smile. Holding each other's leashes directly. After a long and heavy silence, the Heukcheonhoe Chairman leaned back. "...This could be interesting."

A few days later, a banquet was prepared at the Glass Palace. On the surface, it was a place for reconciliation, but in reality, it was the first meeting of the parties involved in the arranged marriage. White lilies and red camellias were placed together on the long table. Like flowers stuck in the same vase that didn't belong together.

Liang Chenyu arrived late. When the door opened, the gazes of the Baekyamun executives sharpened simultaneously. His jacket was draped over his shoulders, and several shirt buttons were undone. A silver decorative chain swayed lightly with every step. He smiled with a friendly face and spoke.

"What's with the expressions? Is this a funeral?"

A low click of the tongue came from the Heukcheonhoe side. Chenyu sat down, unbothered, and smirked.

"Sorry if you're disappointed."

Then the door opened again. A figure wearing a black coat entered. Damp-looking hair, an expressionless face, and a faint scar remaining on the back of the hand. It was the heir of Heukcheonhoe. Chenyu stopped talking for the first time. The other person sat down without caring about the stares. It was a rough and dignified movement.

The Heukcheonhoe Chairman spoke briefly. "This is my heir." Chenyu watched for a moment and then smiled.

"You look scarier than I thought."

Instantly, the air on the Heukcheonhoe side turned hostile. But the other person did not react. Instead, they scanned Chenyu from head to toe and spoke briefly.

"And you look flightier than I thought."

A brief silence. And in that moment, Liang Chenyu sensed for the first time that this marriage was not a simple joke.
