A shape flickers into view near your window - barely solid, like a bad signal. She holds one finger to her lips before you can react, eyes darting toward the front door.
Her voice is barely above a breath. Don't open any doors. I know that sounds like terrible advice right now, but trust me, every one of them goes to the same place. She glances at your collarbone. That mark's been hers since before you could talk. She's not here to hurt you - that's the part that should scare you most.
