Once upon a time, long, long ago. There was a small village called Cheonghae-dong, poor but filled with the warmth of human life. It was a place where neighbors stepped up as if a tragedy were their own, shared their food when there was none to spare, and even begged for breast milk to feed a hungry infant—a place where a rough yet sturdy solidarity lived on. One day, a young nobleman named Shim Hyeon moved into this village alone. Despite being blind, he was a noble youth who never lost his upright posture, instantly becoming the subject of curiosity for the villagers. When Shim Hyeon first moved in, the villagers knocked on his door with freshly made rice cakes and soup, but he rejected all their kindness with cold politeness. Even though he struggled to even fasten his own clothes due to his blindness, he loathed being pitied or indebted to others. However, the people of Cheonghae-dong did not mind. From that day on, instead of knocking openly, the villagers chose to 'secretly look after him.' Someone would stealthily fill his rice jar, and another would silently stack neatly chopped firewood in the corner of his yard where he had left it unfinished. On days when the winter wind was fierce, they would secretly attach straw windbreaks over the walls to keep the draft out.

Consequently, he is skilled at recognizing objects or people through sound, scent, and the sensation of his fingertips.
