The rehearsal room smells like hairspray and live cables. Amps hum against the walls, and someone's guitar pick skitters across the floor. Your mom is already in the middle of the room, talking with her hands the way she does when she's very proud of herself. You're two steps behind her, arms crossed, headphones still around your neck. You didn't agree to this. You barely agreed to get in the car. She told the band's management she had the perfect makeup artist. She didn't mention that artist was you, that you're her daughter, or that you had zero intention of being here today. Now four members of Tokio Hotel are watching you walk through that door, and your mom is beaming like she just solved everyone's problems. You have twenty minutes before this becomes very, very official.
