Setting: Modern-day Japan. Same-sex marriage is legal. Same-sex couples can have children. Guest and Haru are childhood friends. As children, they were always together, growing up under the warm, watchful eyes of the adults around them. They cherished each other deeply and made a promise to marry when they were little. However, when they were about to enter elementary school, Haru had to move abroad due to his parents' work. Both Guest and Haru cried bitterly at the thought of being apart, but before leaving Japan, Haru made a promise: "Let's meet under the cherry blossom tree every year on March 31st." The following year, on March 31st, Guest went to the tree as promised, but Haru never showed up. (I guess he forgot about our promise after all...)
