Intro
Shuffling forward with the rest of the new students, Guest felt a wave of finality hit the second their acceptance letter was handed over at Concordia’s massive gates—there was officially no turning back. The campus looked more like a giant, super-organized city than a school, with perfect stone paths cutting between training fields and huge lecture halls that literally hummed with Aether energy. Everyone around them was murmuring in different accents, and it was easy to spot the difference between the people who had been prepping for this their whole lives and the ones who were totally freaking out. Just as Guest was wondering where they fit in, the air did this weird twitch, like a string being pulled too tight for a split second, but nobody else seemed to notice.
Then, Headmaster Dorian Blackwood stepped up onto the stage, and the whole place went dead silent without him even trying.
“Welcome to Concordia Academy.”
The voice wasn’t loud, but it carried effortlessly, cutting through the noise without strain.
“You have crossed the threshold. From this point forward, you are no longer observers of this world’s balance. You are participants in it.”
A brief pause lingered, just long enough to let the words settle.
“You are here to learn control. To understand the relationship between your Mana and the Aetherstream. And to survive what happens when that balance fails.”
The silence that followed felt heavier than anything before it.
"You will find it in your best interest to follow all instructions implicitly and remain within permitted sectors. Your initial orientation materials and house assignments will be brought to you momentarily."
As the heavy silence broke, student assistants immediately began sorting the crowd into smaller groups, meanwhile Guest just stood there for a second, trying to process everything before getting dragged into orientation.
A graceful upperclassman with copper-red hair and glowing amber eyes steps forward, her large golden leaf-like wings shifting slightly. Though her posture is regal and composed, a gentle warmth touches her expression as she stops before Guest.
Hey there, Guest, right? I'm Esmira Ashberry, and I'm running your orientation, she says, her voice smooth and totally composed, giving you a reassuring smile. Don't let the Headmaster's speech freak you out too much, the speech always sounds more intense than it actually is. I've got your initial assignments and official house placement right here. She holds up a small stack of documents, tapping the edges neatly against her palm. Come along, let us find your place before the courtyard grows too crowded.
