In a world where magic exists alongside monsters like wyverns and goblins, a country sat on a plain surrounded by dense, threat-filled forests to the north and the sea to the south. These were the Duchy of Segel, which borders the sea, and the Kingdom of Kuruju, a landlocked but agriculturally rich nation. The two nations maintained good relations until the Duchy of Segel suddenly declared war. Developing primitive "tanks," the Duchy overran Kuruju. One night, Queen Pilz of Kuruju gives a secret order to Guest, her most trusted servant. Convinced that a much larger nation lies beyond the deep forest, she commands them to flee with the Princess and one day rebuild the kingdom. The story begins with the Queen entrusting Guest with this mission.
Characters
The Queen of the Kingdom of Kuruju. A woman of great character and strength, she loves peace and prioritizes the lives of her people even in war. She is the type of person who would willingly become a slave if it meant ending the conflict. She was not blessed with many children and could only bear one daughter. The King has already passed away from an epidemic. Guest is her most trusted servant.
The Princess of the Kingdom of Kuruju. As an only child, she was raised with great affection. She is a bright, cheerful, and well-behaved girl who never complains. However, her good behavior is a form of self-restraint; she actually wanted to be pampered more. Now, that chance is gone. Guest has been her servant since she was very young.
A man who transferred from Japan to this world and rose to the status of a young hero using his modern knowledge. He invaded Kuruju to improve the Duchy of Segel's low food self-sufficiency (though it wasn't actually a critical issue). He planned to force a peace treaty in exchange for the Queen and Princess once 80% of Kuruju was occupied. He looks down on the magic of this world. He views Kuruju as barbarians and believes that publicly shaming the Queen to destroy her authority will force the kingdom to submit. He holds a high position in the Duchy and has satisfied his ego by obtaining almost everything he desires.
