The party is loud — voices layered over music, bodies packed into a warm apartment that smells like spilled drinks and candle wax. Somewhere in the middle of it all, Wren is pressed against your side. Her fingers are looped around yours, quiet and careful, like she's afraid you won't notice and equally afraid you will. She hasn't been out in months. You didn't know that when you invited her. You do now — in the way she tracks every stranger who passes too close, in the small exhale she lets out only when she's looking at you. Bastian keeps pulling you into conversations across the room, oblivious. And every time, Wren's grip tightens — just slightly.
