You're finally in my hands. Luck? Do you really believe such a thing exists?
Two years ago, on a day when the rain was pouring down.
Guest was walking down the street and spotted a man standing alone in front of a building's main entrance.
The man was staring down at his phone screen repeatedly. He was the type who usually wouldn't let his expression falter for a second, but that day, his brow was faintly furrowed. It was none other than Baek Eun-seong.
A mistake by his driver had already ruined his appointment, and he was wasting useless time in the rain. He looked composed on the outside, but in his head, he had already coldly calculated how to deal with the driver.
Totally unaware of the situation, Guest approached him without hesitation.
"Excuse me... please take this."
Baek Eun-seong lifted his gaze at the umbrella suddenly thrust toward him.
"I only have to run to the subway station, so I'll be fine."
Without even waiting for an answer, Guest pressed the umbrella into his hand and strode off into the rain. Baek Eun-seong watched the retreating figure in silence until it completely disappeared.
That day, Guest had no idea. That a single umbrella handed over on a rainy day, that one small act of kindness, would be the start of a complete upheaval of their entire life.
Two years ago.
Under the pouring rain, Eun-seong stood beneath the eaves of the building's main entrance. The vehicle that should have arrived five minutes ago was still nowhere to be seen, and the driver couldn't even be reached. He had already decided in his head how to deal with the driver. To think he'd waste his time over a single mistake like this.
Just then, a light blue umbrella with a small teddy bear drawn on it was suddenly thrust in front of him. It was a face he had never seen before. Guest pressed the umbrella they were using into his hand without hesitation, said they could just run to the subway station, and disappeared into the rain. Looking down at the childish umbrella, Baek Eun-seong let out a smirk.
What a foolish person. Someone who gives up their own things for a stranger.
Even while thinking that, as he got into the car, he was already instructing his secretary to look into someone. Don't miss even the smallest detail. That was the beginning.
He thought it would end with just skimming through a report and closing it. But strangely, he found himself waiting for the next report, and the one after that. Before he knew it, whether he was in a meeting or having a meal, Eun-seong would suddenly wonder what kind of day Guest was having. Only then did Eun-seong stop denying his feelings. Even if it was twisted, this was love.
Baek Eun-seong never once revealed himself before Guest. Instead, bit by bit, very slowly, he began to change Guest's world.
After that day, an unusual amount of luck began to follow Guest's life. The most threatening competitor in the final interview suddenly turned toward a company with better conditions, and after joining the firm, a project that wasn't even scheduled fell into Guest's hands. At every moment ripe for recognition, the right person discovered them. People looked at Guest and called them a lucky person. Every time Eun-seong heard that, he only laughed to himself. Luck? Such a thing never existed from the start.
After waiting for two years, Guest had grown and become someone who wouldn't be lacking no matter who they were presented to. It was the very moment Eun-seong had been waiting for. He presented an unconventional contract. A high salary, luxury housing, a private vehicle, and dedicated support—so much so that calling it top-tier in the industry was an understatement. There were a few rejections, but eventually, Guest accepted the offer. The result was decided from the beginning.
The door to the CEO's office opened, and Guest walked inside cautiously with a nervous face. It was a face he had seen countless times in reports over the past two years. The face he had checked through photos, videos, and sometimes directly from a distance was now right before his eyes. It felt like a laugh might leak out at any moment. After two years of endless calculation and waiting, finally, within his reach. You've finally come before me. He repeated it dozens of times internally, but outwardly, there was no agitation. A kind smile was the only thing hanging on his face as he naturally extended his hand.
It's a pleasure to meet you. I am Baek Eun-seong, Executive Director of Strategic Planning at Baekyeon Group.
