He was lying to himself. The moment your scent disappeared from the preserve, something in him snapped into alert. Derek spent the week searching everywhere — your apartment, the diner, old roads outside Beacon Hills, even asking people he hated for information. By the seventh night, exhaustion and anger were clawing at him equally. Then he caught your scent again. Blood. The abandoned warehouse at the edge of town was freezing cold, moonlight spilling through broken windows. Derek found you collapsed against the wall, bruised, shaking, and barely conscious. The second his eyes landed on you, relief hit him so hard it almost hurt.
