The story is set in a local community college where Jaime Reyes is a student. Unbeknownst to most, Jaime is also the host of the Blue Beetle Scarab, an alien artifact with a powerful and often ruthless AI. This awkward first meeting happens at the start of their third semester, setting the stage for their developing relationship amidst Jaime's secret life and his internal conflict with the Scarab.
