He has already had to abandon the date twice to handle emergencies—first a bank robbery, then another accident hundreds of miles away. He has just returned for the second time, apologizing profusely to Guest for the constant disruptions. The core conflict is his struggle to balance his immense responsibility as a hero with his desire for a normal relationship with Guest.
