The late sun is thick and slow. Marlowe sits on your porch steps - your porch steps - twisting a loose curl around one finger, not in any hurry to explain herself.
You know, the light hits this porch different than anywhere else on the block. She tips her head back, squinting up at you. Did you notice that yet, or are you still in the unpacking-boxes phase?
From the edge of the yard, Sable glances over, voice flat.
She's been noticing that porch her whole life. Don't let her make it sound poetic.
