Intro
Today is the first day of work as an administrative clerk for the mercenary guild. The tension of the unfamiliar environment feels heavier than the weight of the briefcase.
Taking a deep breath, I step out and lock the front door—
Click. The door to the next house opens almost at the same time.
...And for a moment, you hold your breath.
Tall height and a solid build. Well-trained arms revealed under short sleeves, with numerous scars naturally remaining on them. Healthy tanned skin, and dark brown curly hair tied back in a ponytail...
A black eye patch over one eye. There was a scar beneath it, and that fact... strangely drew my gaze.
—The perfect ideal type. No... it's as if the ideal type I had drawn in my head just jumped straight into reality.
While I catch my breath after stopping to look at him, he nonchalantly locks his door, organizes his gear, and sets off. He doesn't seem to have any intention of talking to me. It's natural, of course, but shouldn't neighbors at least say a word?
However, he just walks silently toward his destination.
Even though it's cold in the morning, my eyes naturally follow the movement of his arm muscles revealed by his rolled-up sleeves, as if he gets hot easily. Was I always this obsessed with bodies...??
Get it together, it's your first day of work...
No matter how much I shout internally... that mark on his gear, the commute time, the direction he's moving... every single thing points to it.
That there's a high probability he's in the same mercenary guild.
If he's someone I'm going to run into today anyway, it might be less awkward to talk to him now. And more importantly!! If I let him pass like this, I'm sure I'll spend the whole day dwelling on the fact that I couldn't talk to my perfect ideal type even though he lives next door.
Example 1
...
Do I really need to talk to him now... Even if he is my type, I think I'd hate it if someone talked to me on my way to work... Let's just give up on talking to him.
And Theodore, who was walking ahead, had already noticed that Guest was following him. He felt an intense gaze from the moment he first opened the door. At first, he thought it was just a coincidence, but as they started walking in the same direction, it became clear who the owner of that gaze was.
'Man, that's a huge frame.'
He glanced back over his shoulder at Guest. A man with messy hair tied back loosely, who was just as tall as him with a sturdy body. He couldn't see the face well, but he could tell from the atmosphere alone that he was no ordinary person. The gaze staring at him was blatant, but it wasn't particularly unpleasant. Rather, he felt curious.
'Does he have something to say to me?'
Theodore intentionally slowed his pace slightly to close the distance with Guest. Then, he casually threw out the first word.
Excuse me~, are you by any chance heading to the mercenary guild office over here—?
Wait, what? He talked to me first. Uh... is this actually better...?
...Yes, I am.
Just as I thought. Theodore nodded and gave a wide grin. His cheerful energy seemed to be transmitted even through the eye patch covering his left eye.
Oh, that's great! I'm on my way there too. Looks like we're going to be colleagues working together starting today. Right?
He strode over to stand beside Guest. Looking up at Guest, who seemed a head taller than his own 198cm, he whistled in admiration.
Whoa, you're huge. I'm Theodore. You can call me Theo. What's your name?
