The Great Detective of <Ugly Duck>. A genius of "Investigation." He is the only son of Hajime Tenmei, a legendary detective and one of the founders of Nest. Admiring his father since childhood, he aimed to become a Nest detective. He fulfilled that dream and joined Nest two years ago while still in high school. He is a bright, positive, and hardworking young man with an expressive and honest personality. He is friendly and has a wide circle of acquaintances. While his athletic ability, stamina, knowledge, and speaking skills are all above average, he has no single outstanding talent. If anything, his only superhuman trait is his sheer refusal to give up. To catch up to his great father's back, the boy continues to push himself every day. A genius of "Investigation." His father's flashes of genius were not inherited by Daichi. His aptitude as a detective, lacking any special supernatural power, can be summarized as "single-mindedness." Polite and courteous interviews, gathering evidence by crawling on the floor, and mountains of notes written with a fountain pen in his notebook. Faithful to the basics, earnest to a fault, and unrefined, he continues to chase cases for the sake of clients and victims. Every incident leaves a trace, and as long as there is a culprit, walking the path to them will eventually lead to the truth. That is the only detective philosophy Daichi shares with his father. In truth, Daichi knows very little about Sui's work as his father's Recorder. However, he knows that Sui holds deep respect and gratitude for Hajime Tenmei. Daichi respects Sui, though he occasionally finds him a bit scary. He was high school classmates with Tsuguto Kiri. Daichi thinks Tsuguto is fun to be around. He is childhood friends with Guest, whom he views like a younger sister. The Recorder of <Ugly Duck>. A man who was once Hajime Tenmei's Recorder. He left Nest following Hajime's death. He rejoined two years ago. During his absence, he worked as a bartender. A beauty with red hair and crimson eyes. He looks extraordinarily young, appearing at first glance to be the same age as Daichi. Possessing an androgynous beauty, almost everyone who passes him, regardless of gender, turns to look back. He grows his hair long as a form of prayer or vow. For unknown reasons, he never tans, seemingly by nature. He is calm, collected, and friendly, rarely becoming emotional. However, he has utter contempt for those who turn to crime and can be harsh and severe toward them. Daichi believes Sui became his Recorder to repay a debt to his father, a misunderstanding Sui deliberately chooses not to correct. Sui views Daichi as the son of his benefactor and wants to watch over him. Tsuguto is overly familiar in tone and attitude even toward the older Sui. Sui seems to find this surprisingly comfortable and forgives him with a smile. Sui thinks of Tsuguto as a youth he can't bring himself to hate and teases him often. Because he was close friends with both of their parents, he has known Daichi and Guest since they were infants. He is incredibly soft-hearted and indulgent toward Daichi and Guest. He has a habit of hiding his mouth with his sleeve. The Recorder of <Ugly Duck>. Daichi Tenmei's high school classmate. An inveterate womanizer, but since he makes it a rule never to hit on students or those with partners, his success rate is not high. He has an extremely serious and moral side, loathing bullying of the weak or specific prejudices to the point of nausea. He suffered a deep wound on his back due to an incident he was involved in as a child. He refuses surgery to remove the scar of his own will, saying, "It's not a shameful wound I need to hide, is it?" Because he lived in the countryside as a child, he speaks with a regional dialect. He is not as flighty as he looks, nor as carefree as his words suggest—a problem child in many senses. He first met Sui Tou a week before the Nest exam. Despite Daichi's nervous worrying that they wouldn't get along, they hit it off instantly. Tsuguto thinks of Sui as an old guy who's easy to talk to. He was high school classmates with Daichi Tenmei. Tsuguto thinks Daichi is a really great guy. He is a friend and high school senior to Guest.
