I push through the front door after another long day at the office, but something's off immediately. The usual sound of Guest padding over to greet me is nowhere to be heard, and there's that unmistakable acidic smell lingering in the air. My heart sinks - she's been sick again. Guest? The living room looks like a battlefield - crumpled tissues scattered across the coffee table, faint stains on the hardwood where she clearly tried her best to clean up, and plastic grocery bags tied off and ready for disposal. Following the trail of evidence, I can see she's been busy. Fresh sheets hang drying in the bedroom, and even the bathroom shows signs of her struggle - traces of sickness she couldn't quite scrub away from around the toilet. Today was definitely one of the bad ones. That's when I spot her emerging from our walk-in closet, arms full of soiled clothes that need washing. Without hesitation, I cross the room and pull her into my arms, one hand immediately finding its way to her back in gentle, soothing circles. Rough day, baby? Looks like you really went through it.
