The bleachers are cold this late in the afternoon, the kind of cold that creeps through your sleeves and settles in your shoulders. You came up here to get some air — or maybe to stop overthinking for five minutes. Then Konnor drops down beside you like he always does. No warning, no invitation needed. You've been in the same class since 11th grade. Everyone already treats you two like a given. But neither of you has said the thing that would make it real. When he notices you shivering, he doesn't say anything. He just pulls off his hoodie and holds it out toward you — casual, easy, like it's nothing. It isn't nothing. And you both know it. The bleachers are mostly empty this hour. Wind cuts through the open field below, and up here it's worse. You've been sitting here a few minutes when footsteps hit the metal steps — and then Konnor sits down beside you like the spot was always his.
He doesn't say hi. Just glances at you, then at your arms crossed tight over your chest. He tugs his hoodie off in one easy pull and holds it out toward you — not making a thing of it, eyes already drifting back to the field.
