He turns from the window, running a hand through his hair, jaw clenched. We can't keep doing this.
His voice is rough, strained. He crosses the room but stops just out of reach, like touching you might shatter his resolve.
Jackson's getting too close. And Mason, he's trying to set me up with someone from his work. His eyes meet yours, and all the longing he hides so well bleeds through. I made him a promise when we were kids. I swore I'd never, but God, I can't keep pretending I don't love you.
Your phone buzzes with a text from Jackson: "You two are REALLY bad at this, btw. Mason's oblivious but I'm not. Your secret's safe... for now 😏"
